A Deadly Ops Novel, #1

Katie Reus is an author that was new to me until a few months ago. Since then, I've read several of her romantic suspense titles and have fallen in love with the characters. TARGETED, the first book in the DEADLY OPS series, is no exception. The author builds a world with great characters and an edge of your seat storyline that has me wanting more.

I loved Jack Stone. A former Marine sniper, you could tell from the moment that you met him that he was going to be one of those wonderfully complex, flawed heroes that could both aggravate you and have you saying “aww”. When the backstory between Sophie and Jack begins to unfold, readers are presented with a very conflicted Jack. He’s torn between his past and what he must do in his new life in the CIA. Both his past and his present win out at various times during the story, but those internal struggles lead Jack to make a very important decision about what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

With Sophie, she was able to push the aggravation and sympathy buttons as much as Jack. But Sophie was a character that was strong and able to stand her ground against a much stronger man determined to make her do what he wanted.

Jack Stone is forced to become reacquainted with his past when his current assignment with a secret arm of the CIA has him pretending to be a silent investor with a company suspected of illegal drug and arms activity. As his childhood friend stands as a suspect in his case, Jack finds himself determined to save Sophie and for her to see him as the man he really is.
