This was my first Laurie London book, so I was sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised.
Alfonso Serrano has been hiding for most of his life. First because he had pledged himself to the Alliance (the evil arm of the vampire community) and then because he was a double agent feeding Alliance information to the Guardian Council (the leaders of the vampire community). In the process of screwing up his life, he's managed to alienate himself from his family and from the woman he loves.
Lily DeGraff, Tracker for the Guardian Council, acted as Alfonso's handler while he was a double agent. During that time she fell in love with him, but her world was turned upside down when Alfonso told her he wasn't in love with her any longer. The past year hasn't been easy for her, especially when her tracking ability seems to start going haywire, but she vows to move forward for both herself and her daughter.
Alfonso and Lily's world are destined to collide, when Alfonso discovers that the Dark Bloods (evil vampires) are looking for a tracker to help them find Sweet Blood (humans who's blood is like a drug to vampires). After Lily's trainee is abducted while driving Lily's car, Alfonso steps in to ensure Lily has protection.
As they search for the missing trainee, they discover there is more to the kidnapping than meets the eye and the one thing that Alfonso feared is somehow connected with it all.
I loved Alfonso. He's the tortured hero who acted like a bad boy, but at heart never truly was. It's evident in everything that Alfonso does: the building of his house, his care for Kip when they rescue him, his encouragement with Zoe and most of all his interactions with Lily.
A good fast paced read that kept your attention and may just bring a tear to your eye at the end.
Alfonso Serrano is a hunted man. For months he's managed to elude the Darkbloods, vengeful foes who won't rest until he's dead. But he still craves one dangerous temptation: Lily DeGraff, the sexy Guardian agent he'll risk anything to protect.
Lily is a wanted woman. Her talent for tracking Sweet—a rare blood type that's addictive to vampires—makes her a prime target for enemy capture. Her only hope is the stealthy vampire operative who stole into her bed…then left her in despair. Danger aside, Lily won't let Alfonso near her heart again—until an irresistible hunger threatens to draw them back together… and into an assassin's snare.
