Urban Enemies

"Urban Enemies" edited by Joseph Nassise is an anthology featuring Urban Fantasy authors writing from the perspective of villains. If you are new to Urban Fantasy or love to root for the bad guy, then this anthology is for you.

Some familiar faces, like Marcone, from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files make an appearance, while some are completely new for the anthology. It was a well put together mix, for anyone who was new to the authors and didn't know what books they wrote.

There were small excerpts at the beginning of a short story if it involved a character from an already established series. These excerpts gave a small amount of background necessary to understand the character and where they came from.

It was interesting to see the world in the eyes of the enemy, so-to-speak. Not all of them were out to see the world burn, they all became what they are for different reasons. Not all characters are black or white, some of these have heavy shadows of grey. They aren't completely evil.

I think the premise behind putting the anthology together is different from a lot of the anthologies out. I like that for some favorite series, we get to see more about who our characters are usually up against. It is well put together.

I recommend this for anyone who likes the bad guy, or just for anyone who loves Urban Fantasy. If your favorite series author is in this anthology, it's not one to miss.
