I loved Andrea Cremer's Nightshade trilogy so when Snakeroot became available to read, I was excited! Even though I had qualms with the ending of the Nightshade trilogy, I was intrigued where Cremer was going to take the characters.
This spin-off revolves around the Searchers left over from the war with the Keepers and Guardians. I wasn't really sure how Cremer was going to create a new Big Bad after the ending of Bloodrose. I was hoping for something new and unexpected. On that front I was disappointed. By having Bosque Mar as the Big Bad in Snakeroot, it diminished everything that lead up to the ending of Bloodrose. The sacrifices and deaths seemed for nothing.
The other problem I had with the story was Adne's behavior. I understand that she is partly under Bosque's influence, but she didn't feel like the same Adne from the Nightshade trilogy. There were some moments where I was excited and "Yeah, she's back!". But then she would revert back to the Adne I didn't like.
However, the events leading up to the ending of the novel have me intrigued enough to want to see where Cremer takes the rest of the series. Who knows, maybe it'll get better?
Fans of Nightshade will probably like seeing the old characters, especially a character that we believed we'd never see again. If you haven't read the Nightshade trilogy then I would not pick up Snakeroot until you've read it! Overall a fun read!
The next thrilling novel in the internationally-bestselling Nightshade series!
Fans asked for it, and now they've got it! Andrea Cremer is continuing the story she began in in her internationally bestselling trilogy: Nightshade, Wolfsbane and Bloodrose. In this new installment, Bosque Mar haunts the dreams of both Adne and Logan, trying to escape for the Nether, where Calla, Shay and the other Guardians trapped him in the final battle in the War of All Against All. Will he turn Adne to the dark side? Will Logan reclaim his birthright? And will darkness take over our world? In a novel filled with magic, romance and breakneck action, master storyteller Andrea Cremer's newest installment will not disappoint!
