"Red Sister" is the first book in a new series by Mark Lawrence.
I honestly don't have a lot to say about this book. The premise sounds very interesting and unique. However, in execution I find the book to be very slow. So slow in fact that I could not finish the book.
Most people are put off by world building in a fantasy story, and that is really what I love about fantasy novels. Mark Lawrence does create a very rich and vibrant world. The flaw for me and the death blow was that it was too slow moving. There is a lot of back story about Nona in the beginning of the novel. I found none of it to be very interesting and it would take me a while to get through a few pages because I had to force myself to sit and read it.
I have heard wonderful things about Mark Lawrence's novels and I have no doubts that there are readers who would love his fantasy stories. I'm just not one of them.
