Are you a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? The head cheerleader - popular, smart and sophisticated - the typical southern belle. Meet Harper Jane Price!
She is the head of almost every organization at school, has the most popular boy as her boyfriend, and is pretty much a shoe-in for valedictorian. But just when she's supposed to be crowned Homecoming Queen, she's trapped in the bathroom, and something terrible is about to change her life forever.
Hawkins does a great job of creating a character I want to stand behind. Harper very much reminded me of Buffy (whom I love). The writing is smart, witty, and laced with pop culture references. It's the epitome of a YA novel, however with Hawkins' Paladin twist it becomes something completely new. A fresh voice in an over-saturated market. I really want to tag a long for the ride with this series, and I can't wait to pick up the next book.
Overall, it was very well done, and created a world I could get lost in. Highly recommended to anyone that's a fan of the YA genre.
Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts. Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him--and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.
With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y'all beg for more.
