Night Owls

A Night Owls Novel, #1

Lauren M. Roy is definitely someone to watch in the Urban Fantasy scene. Night Owl's is wonderfully unique, and refreshing but still resonates with fans of the UF genre.

Elly has not led a normal life. For her being on the run, hunting Creeps (werewolf-esque Jackal creatures) and other things that go bump in the night are everyday situations. But when her Guardian dies leaving Elly on the run she only knows one place she can go to and even then she doesn't know if she should. She has something the Creeps want and they'll do anything to get it back.

Valerie has tried to lead as quiet of a life as a vampire can in a world where the supernatural is still hidden from human kind. She runs a bookstore that stays open late for college students. She has the help of her Renfield (her day person) to run errands and do the things she can't during the day. But Creeps are suddenly invading her small town and she can't hide behind the doors of her bookstore.

Elly and Valerie make an unlikely team, but it's up to them and their many friends including two succubi to bring down the Creeps before any humans get hurt.

While this isn't a perfect book the mythology steeped world with quirks/changes that Roy employs to otherwise recognizable creatures is refreshing. Night Owls can stand on its own next to most Urban Fantasy novels. There are still enough questions and intriguing moments in the book that make me want to read the next one. I want to learn more about the world Elly and Val live in.

Anyone who enjoys the Urban Fantasy genre and is looking for something new should pick up Night Owls by Lauren M. Roy.

Book Blurb for Night Owls

Night Owls bookstore is the one spot on campus open late enough to help out even the most practiced slacker. The employees’ penchant for fighting the evil creatures of the night is just a perk?

Valerie McTeague’s business model is simple: provide the students of Edgewood College with a late-night study haven and stay as far away as possible from the underworld conflicts of her vampire brethren. She’s experienced that life, and the price she paid was far too high for her to ever want to return.

Elly Garrett hasn’t known any life except that of fighting the supernatural beings known as Creeps or Jackals. But she always had her mentor and foster father by her side?until he gave his life protecting a book that the Creeps desperately want to get their hands on.

When the book gets stashed at Night Owls for safekeeping, those Val holds nearest and dearest are put in mortal peril. Now Val and Elly will have to team up, along with a mismatched crew of humans, vampires, and lesbian succubi, to stop the Jackals from getting their claws on the book and unleashing unnamed horrors
