Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover

Rules of Scoundrels, #4

I have been a fan of Sarah MacLean's books for a while, so whenever a book by her comes up for review, I jump at the chance to read it. While I have loved almost everything she has written, this final novel in her 'Rules of Scoundrels' series left something to be desired.

I can usually jump right into her books and stay there until I'm finished, but I struggled with "Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover". I did not connect with Georgiana like I thought I would. I did not immediately like her. I don't know that I disliked her, but there was something blocking me from becoming fully invested in her story. I sympathized with her situation, and when there is an unexpected revelation, I thought my head would explode. But there was still something holding me back. I think I disliked the lack of honesty. I understand the reasoning behind all the lies in this installment, and I realize that Georgiana wasn't the only one to lie.

I connected more with Duncan West, and I felt bad that he was so in love with Georgiana when I felt like she wasn't giving him enough to lead there. Therefore, the first half of the novel was a real struggle for me to work through. However, the latter half of the novel picked up in pace, and I really wanted to see what would happen next.

I think MacLean did a great job of tying up the end of the novel as well as the end of the series. While this wasn't my favorite book by her, it will not stop me from reading whatever she comes up with next.

I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of historical romance, but specifically to anyone who has read the other novels in the 'Rules of Scoundrels' series. This book cannot be read as a stand-alone.
