Thriller/suspense is not usually a genre I reach for when I'm searching for my next book to read. Yet, Colleen Hoover, an amazing author who has written books I've loved, kept talking about Mud Vein and I knew I had to pick it up! Believe me she was not wrong!
As soon as the book began with a woman, Senna, locked inside of a house surrounded by an electric fence, I was hooked! There was so much intrigue! You have no idea really who Senna is or why she's locked up. There are strange rooms and anything can be meaningful. We soon discover that she isn't the only person trapped in the house. But why is this other person trapped with her? Why are they there?
We are taken step by step through their captivity and we grieve with them and fear for them. They are trapped for an unknown amount of time. The house is fully stocked so there really is no telling how/when they'll be freed. The psychological twists are unpredictable and flawlessly executed.
Tarryn Fisher writes beautifully! I am always envious of some author's writing abilities and Fisher is one of a kind. Fisher constantly had me guessing and even when things were discovered it left me shocked and awed. I couldn't put the book down! The way she connects everything and how something seemingly meaningless could prove to be the most important is a testament to her talent.
I highly recommend this to anyone who is willing to give a psychological thriller/suspense a chance!
