“Marrying Winterborne” is the second book in Lisa Kleypas' new series The Ravenel’s. If you have not read the first book I encourage you to do so before reading this one.
Helen Ravenel may have the trappings of society, and the social standing for the season, but she does not have the social experience required. After her engagement to Rhys Winterborne is broken, with false assumptions, she wants to fix it and marry him still. Will he want her? She has to do everything in her power to convince him to accept her apology and re-enter into their engagement.
Rhys Winterborne came into his money the hard way, through dedication and hard work. The gentile society does not see him as one of their own, because he was not born with money. Marrying Helen Ravenel will allow him the advantage of a higher station. But there is something about her that intrigues and calls to him, something other than what he can gain from their marriage. However there's a secret that Helen is keeping that could destroy everything for both of them.
Helen is bookish, intelligent and naive. She is everything I enjoy in a heroine. Rhys is devilish, and very alpha (again everything I want in a hero). They have great chemistry, and it was easy to want to see them together. I enjoyed their banter and easy relationship. “Marrying Winterborne” has everything anyone would expect from a Lisa Kleypas novel.
I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of historical romances, or of Lisa Kleypas.
A ruthless tycoon
Savage ambition has brought common-born Rhys Winterborne vast wealth and success. In business and beyond, Rhys gets exactly what he wants. And from the moment he meets the shy, aristocratic Lady Helen Ravenel, he is determined to possess her. If he must take her virtue to ensure she marries him, so much the better . . .
A sheltered beauty
Helen has had little contact with the glittering, cynical world of London society. Yet Rhys’s determined seduction awakens an intense mutual passion. Helen’s gentle upbringing belies a stubborn conviction that only she can tame her unruly husband. As Rhys’s enemies conspire against them, Helen must trust him with her darkest secret. The risks are unthinkable . . . the reward, a lifetime of incomparable bliss. And it all begins with…
