I Want it That Way

This is my first experience with a book by Ann Aguirre and I was really excited! I know she is a popular author in genres other than New Adult, but when I saw this book was coming out I needed to read it.

I was a huge fan of The Backstreet Boys so the title really hit home for me. I like the style of the cover. Honestly, it was one of the reasons why I wanted to read the book.

Nadia Conrad comes from a family that is struggling to send her to college, so she feels the pressure. She wants to work with children with special needs in the classroom. She works hard: going to school, working at a daycare, and doing her practicum. What she really doesn't have time for is romance, which is fine with her. She moves in with her three friends Lauren, Max, and Angus.

However, she begins spending time with the Hot Ginger downstairs, Tyler. He is completely unexpected. He works full time and goes to school at night, but he also takes care of his four year old son on his own. But there is just some kind of pull between Tyler and Nadia.

I enjoyed the character development, especially of Tyler, I really feel like he changed from the beginning of the novel to the end of the novel. Nadia just felt the same throughout the whole thing, even though she did become a little more courageous.

I didn't feel the romance as strongly as I wanted. While the steamy moments were steamy, the actual romance between the characters didn't feel authentic. I didn't feel the pull for Nadia and Tyler to be together. It is told from Nadia's perspective so you do see her pull to Tyler, but I didn't really feel like there was enough there to build the Happily Ever After.

That being said, it was still an enjoyable book. I recommend it to fans of New Adult.

Book Blurb for I Want it That Way

Nadia Conrad has big dreams, and she's determined to make them come true. But between maintaining her college scholarship and working at the local day care to support herself, dating's the last thing on her mind. Then she moves into a new apartment and meets the taciturn yet irresistible guy in 1B….

Daniel Tyler has grown up too fast. Becoming a single dad at twenty turned his life upside down—and brought him heartache he can't risk again. Now, as he raises his four-year-old son while balancing a full-time construction management job and night classes, the last thing he wants is noisy students living in the apartment upstairs. But one night, Nadia's and Ty's paths cross, and soon they can't stay away from each other.

The timing is all wrong—but love happens when it happens. And you can't know what you truly need until you stand to lose it.
