Jenn Bennett is a very creative author, and I love the world she has created in the Arcadia Bell series. So much so, that I wish it were real and that Cady was my best friend.
There is something strange going on with the knacks of Earthbounds, making them a lot stronger than they are. Cady doesn't see much harm in this until her Bar is robbed by a kid with an incredible knack. In order to make sure the problem is solved quickly, and to get retribution for her Bar she decides to go after the criminals.
Cady has been getting more in touch with her Moonchild magic, but there are strange side effects. Plus someone from Cady's past appears, and makes her suspicious of her own abilities.
There are so many twists and turns in Binding the Shadows, that is was very enjoyable to read and to try to guess what could possibly happen next. The one downfall of the book (reason for 4 stars vs. 5) is that the end felt rushed and I wish there were just a couple more pages to full flesh out what was going on.
Bennett has created a vibrant world, and Cady is a joy to read. Plus that ending definitely makes me wish the next book was out already! This cliffhanger is a tough!
Anyone that is a fan of the Arcadia Bell series should not miss this installment. Anyone who hasn't read the series but enjoys Urban Fantasy, needs to pick up the first book immediately!
In the third book in this beloved and "riveting" (Romantic Times) urban fantasy series, demon-friendly tiki bar owner Arcadia Bell discovers more about her own evolving, and possibly destructive, magical abilities when her bar is the target of a demonic crime wave.
Renegade mage and bartender Cady Bell has had a rough year, but now the door to her already unstable world is coming completely unhinged. When a citywide crime wave erupts, Cady's demon-friendly tiki bar is robbed by Earthbounds wielding surreal demonic abilities that shouldn't exist. With the help of her devilishly delicious boyfriend, Lon Butler, Cady sets out to find the people who wronged her. But the criminals aren't the only ones experiencing unnatural metamorphoses--Cady's own Moonchild abilities are evolving beyond her control. Can Cady track down the monsters responsible before the monster inside destroys everything--and everyone--she loves?
