Dream by the Fire: Winter Magic

Anthology

This is a collection that deserves to be savored. Each story on its own would be a wonderful holiday "quickie" but having them all together in one collection makes the reading experience even more enjoyable. I'll be pulling this one out again next winter holiday season.

A Love Rewritten by Esmerelda Bishop

Yes, we've all had those thoughts of going into our favorite romance book and finding our hero. Ms. Bishop does it for us with a splash of suspense and keeps the characters charming and believable.

Mistletoe Magic by Lanie Fuller

This one made me believe in the magic then it caught me by surprise with Hannah and Jacob going about their seemingly normal but loving lives. A happy ending and I still had tears in my eyes.

High Maintenance by Jamie Hill

A fun romp with Deidre and Rick leading the way, despite Deidre's cast. Deidre's mother got on my nerves a bit but Deidre's ability to cope with her was one of the highlights of the story.

Letting Go by Ave Rose Johnson

A heartwarming story of a couple determined to save their marriage against seemingly insurmountable odds. These people seemed so real they could have been the family just down the street. It really tugged at my heart the way John and Grace were determined to make things work out despite whatever negative signals they received.

Upon a Midnight Clear by Kelly Madden

I wasn't sure where this one was going at first. The main characters were well drawn and the ending brought the story together well.

Solstice Night by Lyra Marlowe

Each turn of the page brought another stumbling block for Liesel and Eric. I could picture these two in my head, in the cellar, trying to determine what life held for them.

A Winter's Gift by Kim Rees

Okay, so yes, the story has been done before. She comes crawling home after one failed relationship after another only to find he has been there waiting all along. But wait, Siobhan and Ethan have been friends for ages. It was fun watching them both discover the dynamic ranges this friendship could take.

Einmal nach a Modresnach by Emily Ryan-Davis

I found it refreshing to read a story based on holiday traditions other than the usual Christmas and Santa Claus. Sophie and David were endearing as they worked through their initial awkwardness in getting to know one another and what their future may hold.

Sugar Baby by Fiona Shinn

Coming off a bad relationship just before the holidays is never easy. In this story Julia is doing just that. A newly graduated entrepreneur in the field of pastry with a quirky high school student assistant named Tania. The characters in this story are lively and colorful with enough flaws to be really human and easy to relate to. During the story everyone is introduced to Dominic, the new chef in town, and then the story really takes off!

I have to admit I found this story the most fun to read and it felt like I was really there with the characters watching and worrying over what was going to happen.

Special Notes:

I really liked the way the editor/publisher put this book together. In the beginning the reader is told that the stories are arranged alphabetically by author or you have the option of using the Table of Contents and pick out all the "Sweet" or all the "Tangy" or whatever combination/order you choose.
