When Seducing a Duke

Seductive and clever, this story definitely yanked my attention straight into Rose and Grey's world and didn't let go until the very last page. Although I did have moments of where I wondered just how the most open-minded, reasonable, and good collection of individuals managed to all be in the same family -- Camilla really seems anachronistically accepting of her daughter's escapades -- the characters were funny, witty, and memorable. For yet another reformed rake, Grey is refreshingly scarred. It's great to see a rake get his comeuppance for once, and his reforming made more sense in that context. I truly enjoyed how Grey's past keeps coming back to haunt him, how his actions had consequences, and how it really does throw up obstacles in his path. Grey and Rose's problems didn't just disappear when they got married, in fact they were exacerbated -- which made the entire story that much more believable and entertaining. Rose was clever, slightly tiresomely gorgeous, positively anachronistic at times -- but best of all, she was no simpering idiot. She had a clearer idea of what went on in society and her world than many other heroines I've met, and practical to boot. I was held captivated until the very last page and Kathryn Smith is now an author I'll seek out.
