Kathryn Smith never disappoints.
She is the queen of historical romances whether they're straight historical, paranormal, or even steampunk. Smith knows how to create enthralling characters in a realistic historical setting that keep readers coming back for more, book after book.
When Tempting a Rogue picks up where the last book of the series left of with Vienne La Rieux opening an emporium and Lord Trystan Kane, an enterprising entrepreneur , trying to become her partner.
Trystan is a man who once loved Vienne only to be rejected by her. He still loves her now though he won't admit it fully to himself. And Vienne obviously loves him, always has even if she did cast him aside though she can't admit to even herself that she's ever truly loved anyone. Not since the disaster that turned her so cold and calculating.
Mixing business and pleasure soon becomes something they can hardly avoid when working so closely together. Their feelings for each other keep coming back to the surface and it becomes harder every day to deny what they are to each other.
But their partnership could have deadly consequences because someone is hell bent on destroying their emporium before it ever opens. Mishaps and accidents keep happening until its clear someone is trying to sabotage them. But who and why? And who is the target? Trystan or Vienne?
Is Vienne's past coming back to haunt her? I was surprised at what was revealed about her past. It wasn't what I was expecting.
One complaint I had is that this book moved a little slowly at times- slower than previous books- but it was still a thoroughly enjoyable read and I was satisfied with the outcome.
I do have to admit- book 2 was my favorite in this series. I wanted more from this one because after the last book Vienne intrigued me and I don't think book entirely did her justice.
All in all if you love Kathryn Smith's books this one is must read.
A lady must always guard her heart… when tempting a rogue.
In the glittering ballroom of London’s most exclusive gentleman’s club no one is more powerful than its mysterious proprietress, Vienne La Rieux. A shrewd businesswoman, Vienne treasures her hard-won independence and has her eye on a prize that could make her England’s richest woman . . . until the only threat to her heart arrives, sending her controlled world into chaos.
Lord Trystan Kane is as familiar with success as he is with the exquisite Vienne. She’s the lover he’s never forgotten, and so, when an opportunity arises that would make them partners once again, he takes it. But Trystan has underestimated the enduring power of the chemistry that originally sparked their passion. And with an enemy watching from the shadows, any attempt to mix business with pleasure could have disastrous consequences.
