The Silence of the Library

Cat in the Stacks Mystery, #5

That irrepressible librarian, Charlie Harris and his gentle giant of a Maine Coon Cat, Diesel are back in their fifth adventure. Pardon me if I say THE SILENCE OF THE LIBRARY is their best so far. The plot centers around a library exhibit centering on YA mysteries – most prominently the Veronica Thane series, of which Charlie himself is an avid fan. When it’s learned that the author who penned the tomes is still alive – and close to a hundred – Charlie and Theresa immediately engage her for a personal appearance. Suffice it to say when news of said author’s appearance goes viral, series devotees and collectors alike converge on Athena with one objective in mind – signed copies! And then there is the matter of the five additional, unpublished Veronica Thane manuscripts that someone will just KILL to get their hands on….

Dean (Miranda) James once again gives us a pleasing blend of crime and charm. Particularly enjoyable for me, as a series book collector myself, were the many facts thrown in about actual series books such as Nancy Drew, Judy Bolton, the Stratemeyer Syndicate et al. Fans of the series will find this an interesting sidebar to a series that just keeps getting better and better with each successive volume. Five Paws! – ROCCO LOTEMPIO

Book Blurb for The Silence of the Library

Everyone in Athena, Mississippi, knows Charlie Harris, the librarian with a rescued Maine coon cat named Diesel. He’s returned to his hometown to immerse himself in books, but a celebrated author’s visit draws an unruly swarm of fanatic mystery buffs?and one devious killer.

It’s National Library Week, and the Athena Public Library is planning an exhibit to honor the centenary of famous novelist Electra Barnes Cartwright?creator of the beloved Veronica Thane series.

Charlie has a soft spot for Cartwright’s girl detective stories (not to mention an extensive collection of her books!). When the author agrees to make a rare public appearance, the news of her whereabouts goes viral overnight, and series devotees and book collectors converge on Athena.

After all, it’s rumored that Cartwright penned Veronica Thane stories that remain under wraps, and one rabid fan will stop at nothing?not even murder?to get hold of the rare books
