The Ghoul Next Door

A Ghost Hunter Mystery, #8

Psychic MJ Holliday’s hoping for some R&R when she and her crew return to Boston for a well-deserved hiatus from their tv show, Ghoul Getters- but fate has other ideas. Fate in the form of MJ’s ex, Dr. Steven Sable, who’s come to her for help. Seems his fiancée’s brother (he sure didn’t waste much time) is being haunted by a sinister spirit.

MJ and her crew set up surveillance cameras to observe the spook in action – but when he wanders outside and returns covered in blood in the wake of news of a young girl’s murder, there’s definitely cause for concern. Can MJ, Heath and Gilley outwit this vengeful spirit before Luke pays the ultimate price?

As always, Ms. Laurie’s mysteries are well plotted and well written. The resolution of the lingering feelings between MJ and her former flame is bittersweet, particularly after reading Laurie’s acknowledgement page at the beginning of the book. A bit darker than the others, but satisfying. I’d advise reading this one with all the lights ON. Four and a half paws! - Rocco LoTempio
