In this first installment of a new series we meet Victoria Rienzi. Victoria, aka “Vick” is a mystery writer who wants to take a hiatus from mysteries to focus on writing a book about her family, a matter which entails her returning to her roots – the family restaurant, Casa Lido, in Southern New Jersey. While there, she reconnects with Tim, the guy who broke her heart and made her take off for NYC in the first place. She also finds herself plunged headlong into the role of detective for real, when an obnoxious producer is murdered after having lunch at the family restaurant.
Rosie Genova has a nice clean writing style and the mystery is well plotted. The characters, both main and secondary, are appealing and the book even has recipes at the end! Put this one on your keeper shelf. We look forward to the next instalment. Four and a half Paws. – ROCCO LoTempio
