Zia is a gifted healer. She goes where she is needed, to try and help heal the sick. She has been called to one such village. But when her job is finished, the villagers think that because no one has died that Zia must be a witch. As she tries to leave, she is caught and put tied to a stake and about to be burned alive. Then four men on horseback come riding into the village to put a stop to it. Artair Sinclair is looking for his lost brother. The only lead he has is that Zia took care of him and knows where he is. By the time he tracks Zia down, he finds that she has been accused of being a witch and is about to be burned alive by the same villages she has helped heal. After Artair saves her, she agrees to take him to her village to his brother, who was still there when she left. When they get there, they learn that Artair's brother is gone. He left in the middle of the night and no one knows where he went, if they do they are not telling. When Artair finds himself falling for Zia. He has to figure out a way to get her to go home with him, on the way he will try to get her to agree to marry him. On the way the Artair's home they pretend to be married. They face danger on their way home. They grow closer and closer to each other. But Zia will only marry for love and Artair does not believe in love.
