Cordelia Tink is a Cornish Pisky wise woman. Thirty years ago Cordelia and her troop were imprisoned in the nothingness between life and death, they could see everything happening around them but were unable to do anything. Cordelia blames herself for what happened because she failed to heed a warning. She now vows to never fail her people again. Cordelia's family has always been ashamed that she is half water Nymph. She has always fought against that part of her nature, she wears magical Celtic symbols that have been painted on her skin. She is determined to not allow anything or anyone to hurt the troop again. She can't let what she feels for the king's brother distract her from her duties.
Michael O'Connor is the twin brother of the Cornish Pisky king. He is the troop's storyteller. He has no worries or responsibilities and that’s the way he likes it. He loves all women but he has strong feelings for Cordelia that he does not understand. While his brother and sister-in-law are away, Michael agrees to look after his twin nephews. When someone tries to open a gate between this world and the underworld, his nephew is taken hostage until they find a way to close it. Michael has to team up with Cordelia to save his nephew. The longer they are together the stronger their feelings for each other get. Both Michael and Cordelia will have to learn to trust each other, their friends and themselves in order to save the child.
This is the second tale of the pisky troop by Ms. Taylor and it is a very well written story of magic and love. This is a fast paced story that held my attention from the first page to the last one. The fantasy world that Ms. Taylor has created is very believable and the characters are intriguing. I can't wait to see what comes next in this very fascinating world. Even though this is the second of a series, it can be read alone.
