The Flame is just one book in a wonderful fantasy series. There are eight brothers, born two years apart and four sets of twins. The brothers are exiled to Nightfall Island due to a prophecy that was made several hundred years ago. Now the brothers are doomed to live with only each other for company on Nightfall. It is forbidden for anyone to live on the island and women are very forbidden on the Island. This is the story of the seventh son, Koranen, whose verse ends with "water shall control the flame."
Koranen is ready for his curse to come to an end. His problem is that he burns with an internal flame that he can't control. He can't touch a normal woman without the fear of burning her. Koranen's only chance at love is to find a woman who can withstand his flame. Danau is from an underwater city, her gift is that she can control water, but she can't control her ability to freeze things. She comes to nightfall along with three other single women from her city to learn how the build a Desalinator and hopefully to repair the non-working ones on the island. Hopefully one of the four women will be a mate for Koranen. Danau thinks she has no time for romance, she is there to do a job. Due to her uncontrolled gift, she is a social outcast in her world and all she does is work, she has no social life. Koranen and Danau find themselves trying to work together without touching each other because each are unaware of the others uncontrolled gift. This makes for an assuming tale.
Ms. Johnson has written a story with such original characters. You will find yourself falling in love with each and every one of them. As each brother finds his mate and the trouble that comes their way, you find yourself on the edge of your seat until the last page. These are stories you can read over and over again and never get tired of them.
Seventh in the hot series from the national bestselling author that Jayne Anne Krentz hails as "fabulously fresh."
