Jaid Marlowe is a single mother and an FBI agent. Eight years ago when she was a rookie agent she took a class from the BAU taught by Adam Raiker. After working a couple of cases with him, their relationship became a personal one. When Adam realizes that Jaid is getting to him in a way no one else ever has, he pushes her away. Adam catches and kills a child serial killer, but in the process he is badly injured. He leaves the FBI and opens his own agency called Raiker Forensics. When a supreme court judge, who happens to be a friend of Adams, is shot by an assassin Adam is brought into the investigation at the request of the judge's widow. When Adam left the FBI he believed he would never see Jaid again but he knew breaking things off with her was the biggest mistake of his life, but now they are teamed together to find out who is killing high level people and leaving behind a card with one of the seven deadly sins on it. Determined to leave the past where it belongs in the past, Adam and Jaid will have to work together before the assassin strikes again. When the clues lead straight to Adam, Jaid will have to make a choice. To either believe Adam is innocent or take him in or believe the worst. The attraction between Adam and Jaid is still as strong as it was before. Even through they realize that their love never died and is as strong as ever, they will have to go on the run to find the real killer and prove that Adam is innocent.
This is the sixth installment in Ms. Brant's Mindhunters series. This series keeps getting better and better. This book kept me on the edge of my seat as all great suspense should. I could not put it down until I got to the last page. The mystery and romance are together in the right mix. The twists and turns in this story will keep you glued from the first page to the last. Check with Ms. Brant's Website, www.kyliebrant.com, to see when the next Mindhunter will be out. I hope it will not be long. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of the Mindhunter series.
