First off, I am a HUGE fan of the Sydney Croft novels. It’s paranormal romance with a secret agent spin. ACRO is a covert ops organization manned by elite individuals with psychic abilities. This is not your garden-variety psychics either, no way. Acro agents are like Xmen vs evil doers with the perk of a darn good romance thrown in. Sydney Croft is actually two talented writers- Larissa Ione and Stephanie Tyler. I should warn readers that the sex scenes are smoking and lean toward erotic but in a way that steams the pages as opposed to taking away from the story.
Tempting the Fire is book 5 in the series and you don’t need to read previous stories to know what’s going on although it helps give background on the secondary characters that have been introduced in earlier novels. I really enjoyed this installment since it was a two for one. Sela and Marlena both get an HEA and the story roles back and forth between their romances. Sela's gift is the ability to read a mans mind during the act of sex-a very useful talent in her undercover days. A horrible assignment gone bad has pretty much sidelined her but she teams up with Marlena a new undercover agent to help on what is to be a fairly simple investigative mission in the jungle. Marlena is an unusual Acro agent in the sense that she doesn’t have any psychic ability. She was cursed to fall in love with every man she sleeps with and in return each man will hate her after sleeping with her. Double bad whammy for her.
From there of course the assignment is anything but simple. The women are caught and help prisoner by a military group trying to find out what could have wiped out an entire unit of seals. That’s how we meet Chance McCormack and Logan Mills. These two are VERY hot and they get two very sexy ladies. Without giving away any more of the story I can only assure readers that this was worth the wait and the read. Fans of Acro will be updated on some of our previous character favorites while enjoying this steamy read. The only sad part is that both Stephanie and Larissa have said there is only one more Sydney Croft book left and they will be ending the series.
