Bodyguard

Shifters Unbound

I loved this book! It was short but smoothly written and follows the Shifter Unbound series. Bears are apparently becoming very popular in paranormal romance and I thank Shelly Laurenston for writing the first bear shifter romance that I’ve ever enjoyed. Jennifer Ashley does an awesome job with Ronan, a Kodiak bear living in a shifter town. During a simple store visit, his orderly life is turned around by a robbery at Elizabeth Chapman's store. Or as orderly as life can be with several bear orphans living together under one roof. Elizabeth is human and is pulled in to the shifter world when she goes to testify on Ronan's behalf. After all, shifters must never harm humans, not even by accident.

I adored this story. Ronan is a true hero and Ashley handles the romance between shifter and human with seeming ease. While this is a novella, it is long enough to have a clear concise plot, furthers the shifter story line and brings us cameos with a few previous characters from the other shifter novels. There is also a turning point for me with this novel and I'm eager to see if shifters will eventually gain equal rights or mutiny against the oppression the humans have forced on them. This book was very well written and a joy to read.

Book Blurb for Bodyguard

Elizabeth Chapman is saved from an armed robber by a giant Kodiak bear who shifts into a large, well-muscled, and fully naked human male. But when it's revealed that the robber is the brother of a dangerous criminal, Elizabeth finds herself the target of a vendetta.

Ronan, the Bear Shifter, takes her to Shiftertown for safety, where Elizabeth learns that the mateless Ronan, alone in the world, takes care of Shifters who have also been left on their own. Having grown up in foster care, Elizabeth can only admire how protective Ronan is.

But Ronan will only let Elizabeth leave the confines of Shiftertown if he becomes her 24/7 bodyguard. Elizabeth chafes at her restriction, but agrees. The trouble is, the sassy human Elizabeth is triggering Ronan's long-buried need to find himself a mate.

A short novel of the Shifters Unbound series (46,000 words; sixteen chapters).
