Charlotte Emerson is almost one century old. She has never truly loved since her twin brother died when they were only fifteen years old, until now, when she falls for Jared Pierce. But it is not until their close friend Emily dies that they start to work out their feelings for each other. But after Emily's death, Charlotte discovers that she is changing. She breaks a nail, gets a zit, and bleeds for the first time in almost one hundred years. Charlotte starts to worry when her creator visits her at her home. Why has he come, and why now? Can Charlotte's frozen heart finally thaw after her brother's death, can she have a relationship with Jared, discover the reasons behind her creator's visit, and what he has planned for.
Having read Francesca Lia Block's work before, I was eager to pick this one up, and I was not disappointed. Pretty Dead was just as adventurous and action-filled as her other books. I loved reading about Charlotte's reaction as she became more and more human. I recommend this to any of Francesca Block's fans and those who just enjoy a good paranormal story. Pretty Dead is a fang-tastic read that you can really sink your teeth into.
PEOPLE PITY ME, BUT MOSTLY THEY FEEL ENVY. I HAVE ALL THE LUXURY AND FREEDOM A GIRL MY AGE COULD WANT.
Something is happening to Charlotte Emerson. Like the fires that are ravaging the hills of Los Angeles, it consumes her from the inside out. But whether it is her eternal loneliness, the memory of her brother, the return of her first love, or the brooding, magnetic Jared-she cannot say. What if it's something more...
Something to do with the sudden tear in her perfect nails. The heat she feels when she's with Jared. The blood rushing once again to her cheeks and throughout her veins.
For Charlotte is a vampire, witness to almost a century's worth of death and destruction. But not since she was a human girl has mortality touched her.
In what way will you be transformed?
