John Smith, as his current IDs says, is Number Four. Nine aliens came to Earth, escaping from another race of aliens called the Mongolians. If the nine lose, Earth will be lost. The Mongolians must kill the nine in order of their numbers. He is next since the first three have been murdered. At his new school, desperate to fit in, John has already made an enemy, after showing interest in the boy's ex-girlfriend. While going to school and hiding his secret he must also find information on the Mongolians who are tracking him. John has special powers that will help him fight and survive. He'll need every bit of them if he wants to escape the Mongolians and survive high school.
This book left me eagerly awaiting the next work by Pittacu Lore. "I am Number Four" was fast-paced and exciting cover to cover. I was so engrossed in this book I almost missed my stop on the school bus; this book should come with a warning. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a good "alien saves the world" story or those who just enjoy books with exciting fight scenes.
Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.
Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. we have lived among you without you knowing.
But they know.
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.
I am Number Four.
I am next.
