Nikki Carmichael is a quirky and gorgeous personal chef who needs a job quickly. Due to some problems with a recent injury, she's had to give working in a restaurant on her feet all day. Bills are due and she's beginning to panic when she gets a phone call that changes her life.
Jay Buchanan is the opinionated and hunky editor for NYFM, a trendy men's magazine in California. He's made his final faux pas with the opposite sex and has sworn off women for good this time. In need of a personal chef for some upcoming events, he calls Nikki to work for him and his life will never be the same.
Ms. Ridgway has written over 20 novels and doesn't disappoint with her latest offering. We meet Nikki who is content with a plastic fish and a bag of frozen peas for company. Relationships just aren't that big of a deal to her. She'd much rather do the job that she loves and not be in pain. She can't believe her luck when Jay calls and gruffly offers her a job working at his fabulous home. Even though the job is temporary, Nikki looks forward to the ability to network and hopefully find something full time. Jay is upset for himself for making the mistake of sleeping with his neighbor, who is a friend. Since he can't seem to get it right, it's best if he stays away from women indefinitely and forgets about sex. Neither has ever been in love. Nikki arrives to his home and they meet in person for the first time. Immediately, the link between these two is fraught with so much sexual tension that I literally licked my lips in anticipation of what would happen next. The reader just knows that once Nikki and Jay make a connection it will be erotically explosive. In addition, their witty conversation had me giggling like a schoolgirl throughout the book. Both characters have some issues from their past making them wary of commitment, but they still have fun trying. There is a story within a story as we meet several characters who are integral to the overall plot. Each person has something intriguing to tell us and we wonder how this adorable tale will all end. Ms. Ridgway has done an exemplary job of grabbing our attention and never letting go, even when we turn the last page. This is one of the best love stories I've read in a while, and encourage you to add it to your bookshelf as a keeper.
The beachside knitting shop Malibu & Ewe is the perfect place for L.A.'s hip young crowd to enjoy colorful yarn and intimate conversation. For personal chef Nikki Carmichael, it could be the softest place to land if her new job falls through. Working for magazine writer Jay Buchanan has come with some strange conditions-like pretending to be his girlfriend. As for Jay, he finds himself drawn to the kitchen, where he's intrigued by his sexy cook's ability to withstand the heat between them. And now he thinks it's time to turn up the flames.
