Callie Hutton brings us back to the lovely Lacey family with this beautiful historical romance. Lady Mary is a captivating heroine and I was honestly looking forward to her story. I cannot say how surprised I was to read just who her leading man could be. How indeed could Darius, the Earl of Redgrave be a hero after being viewed for so long as a bounder? But the author builds the story and the personalities in such a way that not only is it plausible it is actually a wonderful way to bring the two together.
Darius is such a complex hero and the fact that he was able to so quickly over-come my preconceived notions of his character was fantastic. I can’t believe that I even shed a few tears for him, he was such a principled man.
Their passion in “The Earl's Return” is extraordinary and is practically palpable. I honestly can’t decide if I was happy or sad after reading this book.
Now that all of the Lacey girls have had their stories told I’m upset that I have no more to look forward to, but it was such a delightful story that I just know it is one that I will reread over and over again. I cannot wait to discover more fabulous stories and series by this must-read author.
Lady Mary Redgrave has sworn off men but she cannot stay away from the only man she truly should. More than four years ago the Earl of Redgrave jilted Mary’s sister and married another woman. Now a widower, Darius has returned to town in search of a bride, but the only woman who interests him is the one he must avoid. But passion over rules common sense and the two cannot stay apart.
London, 1819. Four years ago, Darius, the Earl of Redgrave fled London two weeks before his wedding to Lady Mary’s sister and married another woman. Now a widower, he has returned to seek a new wife.
One woman catches his eye . . .
At first, Lady Mary doesn’t recognize the handsome lord as the cad who ran out on her sister. After giving him the cut direct in a London ballroom, she finds herself running into him everywhere she goes, and fighting a forbidden attraction. Not only has Mary sworn off men, Redgrave is so very wrong for her. But she cannot stop thinking of his kisses. Redgrave means to stay away from Mary but it is impossible. Passion between two people who can never be together is a dangerous game.
The Marriage Mart Mayhem series is best enjoyed in order.
