Christina McKnight introduces a delightful cast of characters in the first of her series. Lady Edith Pelton might be young and she has already experienced a horrible tragedy but she doesn't let emotion overrule her brain and I couldn't help but admire her determination to discover the truth. I loved seeing her struggle when her emotions became stronger and her common sense harder to listen to. But she had such gumption that I knew she would find at least some answers. And while she was smart and analytical she was also so very kindhearted.
Triston, Viscount Torrington was absolutely fabulous. From the moment he first comes across Edith she burrows under his skin and she couldn't have been luckier than to come to his attention. From his treatment of his sisters it is easy to recognize what a truly wonderful man he is.
Every character in this story called to me in one way or another and I cannot wait to see some of them make appearances in other stories. In fact I dearly hope that Triston's sisters each get their very own story. This historical has everything Regency romance fans have to come to expect from the genre. Readers get witty banter, charming gentlemen, precocious young women and lavish sceneries to accent the action and adventure. Added to the expected scenarios this charming story contains a mystery or two and I cannot wait to see what the other two ladies get up to during their own adventures.
The Story: Lady Edith Pelton is determined to expose her friend's killer but she will not risk accusing an innocent man so she spends her time spying on the potential scoundrel in order to uncover the truth. Viscount Torrington discovers Edith skulking around his neighbour and is fascinated by her. But when Edith disappears he must rescue her and then convince her of his feelings.
One tragic night changed sensible, proper Lady Edith Pelton’s life: when her best friend fell to her death, pushed down a flight of stairs by a nefarious lord. Now, Edith dedicates her time to watching the man she thinks is responsible, while gathering information to expose other scoundrels posing as gentlemen of honor about London. When her spying is noticed by a perfect stranger, Edith finds herself with two mysteries—what happened to her friend, and how to win the heart of this brilliantly handsome lord.
Triston Neville, Viscount Torrington, has been tasked with two duties for the upcoming Season: see that his sisters make the most of their debut, and avoid embroiling himself in another scandal. What he does not expect is the captivating, fair-haired beauty that literally falls into his path. When the mysterious Lady Edith suddenly disappears without a trace, Triston fears his past misdeeds may have returned to destroy his life once more.
Can Triston piece together the puzzle in time to save Edith and prove that his love is nothing less than honorable?
