Mia Kayla gives readers a suspenseful, poignant story with this uniformed hero love story. Maggie Mathis is the type of heroine we all aspire to be, she is intelligent, kind-hearted and strong. She is self-sufficient yet scared, but she's determined to deal with her problems herself. Gray Harper is the type of hero we all dream about. He's a wounded-hero who doesn't see himself as such. Watching him dealing with his stress from his injury and his guilt for that incident as well as keeping secrets from Maggie was fascinating. I felt such a connection to these two people and the town they were in . I stayed up all night reading and didn't even care about the missed sleep. The mystery kept me hooked and then there was a twist and that hooked me even more but throughout it all it came down to Gray and Maggie and how wonderful these two were. I found myself holding my breath that everything would work out for them and I cannot wait to see what else this author has to offer. If I became so attached to Maggie and Gray and all their friends I cannot wait to see what adventure will come up next and just how much I will become entangled in it and the characters. If you are looking for a romantic suspense with a wonderful setting and a spectacular cast of characters I urge you to pick this one up.
After being shot on the job FBI agent Gray Harper heads to his best friend's to recuperate but when he gets there he is surprised to find out that his invite has come with a few strings. Seems the best friend's sister has been receiving threats and wants Gray to find her stalker but without her knowing. Maggie Mathis has always taken care of herself and she doesn't want anyone else to put themselves in danger to protect her. Can Gray keep her safe while keeping it a secret and protect their hearts while he's at it?
Wounded FBI agent Gray Harper will honor his dead partner by returning to work—as soon as the Bureau shrink clears him for duty. In the meantime, a long vacation in his best friend's hometown sounds like the perfect distraction. But Nate Mathis has another plan. His twin sister, Maggie, has a stalker, and Gray's the only one Nate trusts to catch the bastard.
Admitting she's scared would bring the cavalry, and Maggie Mathis has always taken care of herself. She certainly doesn't need a bodyguard. As far as she knows, Gray's in town to work as the Mathis family's new business manager. That she's always found her brother's friend handsome is something she'll keep to herself.
Gray's real job would be a lot easier if he didn't have to keep his intentions from Maggie. It would also be easier if he didn't want to sleep with her. He certainly shouldn't have kissed her good-night. There never should have been a second date.
All too soon, the line between responsibility and pleasure blurs. Gray hates to think of Maggie in danger. He hates that he thinks about Maggie too much, and of the day he won't be there to protect her. Secrets aren't easy to keep from those you love, but Gray needs to guard several with his life…before he risks losing Maggie forever.
