Ally Broadfield delivers an absolutely delightful historical romance with her latest adventure. Lady Louisa Adair has no intention of leaving her family home ever and watching her come to terms with just what exactly this could mean for her future was entertaining and enlightening. My heart ached for her, for the acknowledgement she so craved from her family and the hard decisions she needed to make. I enjoyed watching her dealing with all the emotions and the changes she was going through especially where they concerned the charming Earl of Thornbrook. Gavin is at his wits end, no matter how hard he tries he cannot convince Lady Louisa that he is serious in his regard for her and her alone. Watching him curse his reputation and his past kept me riveted. I needed to know what he'd done and what the outcome would be. I loved watching the relationship between these two unfold, the subtle changes that became monumental. Adding in the adventure of looking for lost treasure just enhanced the fun for me but what really drew me in was the couple and their relationship. If you are looking for a love story with substance as well as some action and adventure this one is a must-read.
The Story: Lady Louisa is a young lady with a plan for her future so when the rakish Earl of Thornbrook makes it obvious that he wants her as his bride she isn't sure she is ready to give up those plans. Little by little he reveals his true self but will her father's objections make up her mind end the courtship before she can even change her mind?
Gavin Corey, the Earl of Thornbrook, has shed his rakish ways in the hope of winning Lady Louisa's heart, but neither she nor her parents consider him a suitable match. He convinces her to join forces with him to locate a missing family treasure by proposing a wager: if he finds the jewels, Lady Louisa must allow him to court her, but if she prevails, he must reveal the secret he's keeping from her.
Lady Louisa Adair might be the most sought after lady on the marriage mart, but she values her independence above all else and has no interest in giving up her inheritance to marry. As she spends more time with the charming earl, however, she comes to wonder if he's worth risking her inheritance and her family's disapproval… until she's confronted with the scandal from his past.
