Piper J. Drake dishes out a delicious adventure with the first book in her “Safeguard” series. From the very first sentence I was hooked. I knew that I was definitely in for an adventure and I wasn’t disappointed at all. I wasn’t even disappointed by the lack of sleep I got because I had to stay up reading all night.
Maylin Cheng is a sweet and stubborn heroine who is so much stronger than she appears. It was so easy to empathize with her even though I have almost nothing in common with her.
Gabriel Diaz is a hard man but as his personality is revealed a little at a time it becomes truly evident just how much of a hero he is.
I don’t want to give away anything about this fantastic book because I want everyone who reads it to experience the same joy of discovery I made with every word. The premise of the mystery is darn near brilliant and watching the team member’s work together with Maylin was a treat. I loved watching her cook as much as I loved her thought process.
The Centurion Corporation team members are all fascinating and I cannot wait to see them all get their very own adventures. If you like your suspense to be action-filled and full of fascinating characters this one is a must-read. Words can’t describe how I can barely wait for the next book!
Maylin Cheng is desperate when her sister goes missing and no one but her seems concerned. The bodyguard she approaches her dismisses her straight away and she is at her wits end. Gabriel Diaz is a team leader with a mercenary group and when the woman who asks him for help is attacked right before his eyes he knows he will do everything in his power to protect her.
He's not the hero she's looking for
As part of the elite Centurion Corporation team, military-veteran-turned-mercenary Gabriel Diaz is a natural defender. He'll do anything to ensure a mission is successful. Anything but get emotionally invested—he learned the hard way that can be deadly. Easy bodyguard jobs in between the more challenging missions are all he's interested in now.
Maylin Cheng is desperate and running out of time. Her younger sister has gone missing but no one seems to take her concern seriously. Her last hope lies in asking an aloof bodyguard for help. He dismisses her outright, but all that changes when she is almost killed in a not-so-accidental hit-and-run right before his eyes.
As Maylin leans on Gabriel, she begins to rely on him for more than just her safety. But as their attraction grows, so does the danger surrounding them. When the elaborate web they're trapped in unravels, Gabriel will do anything to protect them. Even if that means putting his heart in the crosshairs.
