Aileen Fish spins a wonderful holiday tale of heartache healed with this fabulous Regency romance. Helena is a strong and affable heroine while Duncan is a serious yet sweet hero. Watching their long term friendship and familiarity blossom in to love was a wonderful gift for me and I could not have asked for a more suitable couple to celebrate the season with. The details and decorations were lovely and the supporting cast added just the right amount of interaction without remaining too far in the background or over taking the spotlight. This was a completely enjoyable traditional Regency and is a fantastic way to warm yourself up in front of the fireplace. I’ve come to expect a solid pleasurable read from this author and am not disappointed yet again.
While spending the holidays with her cousin Helena is happy to recapture the joy of the season after the loss of her fiancé. She is surprised to find her cousin’s brother-in-law Duncan, a usually serious and business minded gentleman making himself available at every turn. Duncan had forgotten just how wonderful Helena’s genuine laughter is and he becomes determined to ensure he hears more of it during the holiday season, and perhaps the rest of his life.
Facing her second Christmas since the loss of her fiancé, Helena relies on her favorite traditions to bring back the joy of the season. Yet from stir-up day to bringing in the greenery on Christmas Eve, her cousin’s brother-in-law Duncan is underfoot, questioning her every action.
As Duncan plays along with the outdated rites, he realizes how much he’s missed Helena’s laughter.
When he hears she plans to re-enter the Marriage Mart the next Season, he is struck with jealousy. Is he falling in love, or simply under the spell of the holiday season?
