Dangerous Secrets

Dangerous, #2

Caroline Warfield immerses readers in a world of political powers and historical intrigue with this lovely romance. Nora Haley is such a strong female and the disappointments of her past have not made her bitter so it was easy for me to cheer on the success of her endeavors. I love how straightforward she is while still remaining kindhearted. Jamie Heyworth is a man consumed by despair and self-loathing and yet all hope is not lost, as he proves his worthiness by going above and beyond in helping Nora. He might not believe he is indeed a good man but Nora had no doubts and neither did I. Nora's sweet Italian niece stole my heart as well as Jamie's from her introduction and I loved the location and characters of this story. I liked the unique location and the resulting atmosphere of the story but I am looking forward to reading the adventures that came before this as I found Jamie's friends to be quite interesting. If you are a historical romance fan this is a great choice as it has a little bit of everything in just the right measure including mystery, danger, laughter and romance.

Jamie Heyworth is living in disgrace in Rome but when a young English widow needs his help Jamie finds himself ready to face his uncertain future. Nora Haley's brother is on his deathbed and wishes his sister to care for his soon to be orphaned daughter. Her niece comes from a wealthy and powerful family yet Nora is determined to grant her brother's wishes no matter how many secrets she must uncover in order to do so. Can Jaime help her succeed without the crutch of alcohol or will she reveal his darkest secrets and destroy the tentative bond they share?

Book Blurb for Dangerous Secrets

When a little brown wren of an Englishwoman bursts into Jamie Heyworth's private Hell and asks for help he mistakes her for the black crow of death. Why not? He fled to Rome and sits in despair with nothing left to sell and no reason to get up in the morning. Behind him lie disgrace, shame, and secrets he is desperate to keep.

Nora Haley comes to Rome at the bidding of her dying brother who has an unexpected legacy. Never in her sunniest dreams did Nora expect Robert to leave her a treasure, a tiny black-eyed niece with curly hair and warm hugs. Nora will do anything to keep her, even hire a shabby, drunken major as an interpreter.

Jamie can't let Nora know the secrets he has hidden from everyone, even his closest friends. Nora can't trust any man who drinks. She had enough of that in her marriage. Either one, however, will dare anything for the little imp that keeps them together, even enter a sham marriage to protect her.

And don't miss Dangerous Works, where Jamie first appeared.
