Bronwen Evans proves her talent with this fantastic historical romance. I confess did not read this book first and was introduced to Christian prior to reading his story and while he was an interesting secondary character I had no idea I would lose my heart to him so quickly once I read his own adventure. It was no wonder that Sarah Cooper was infatuated by Christian as I was from the very first page. He is a wounded soul but so strong, steadfast and loyal. And how could I not feel a connection with Sarah, I was so invested in what happened to her because she was such a truly admirable heroine. The supporting cast and the scenes seamlessly blend to enhance the adventure and everything comes together beautifully making me feel as if I've been transported into the story with Sarah and Christian. I cannot wait to read all of the stories in this Libertine Scholars series as these men are truly fascinating and the two heroines i have read about so far are more than worthy partners for them. If you like your historicals with a touch of mystery, a ton of romance and enough adventure to keep your heart pounding than I highly suggest you pick up this one.
The Earl of Markham is a man with battle scars on his face and his soul but he is determined to return home to England and regain his honor. Sarah Cooper might not carry the scars that Christian Trent does but he is just as wounded and determined to escape her abusive past so she disguises herself as a governess but it isn't enough to protect her heart. Can these two right the past and still have a future together?
In Bronwen Evans’s Loveswept debut, a pair of damaged souls ignite each other’s deepest passions—even as they tempt fate by deceiving the world.
Desperate to escape her abusive past, Sarah Cooper disguises herself as a governess in the employ of Christian Trent, Earl of Markham, the man who, long ago, she fantasized about marrying. Despite the battle scars that mar his face, Sarah finds being near Christian rekindles her infatuation. A governess, however, has no business in the arms of an earl, and as she accompanies Christian on his voyage home, Sarah must resist her intense desires—or risk revealing her dangerous secrets.
One of the renowned Libertine Scholars, Christian Trent once enjoyed the company of any woman he chose. But that was before the horrors of Waterloo, his wrongful conviction of a hideous crime, and his forcible removal from England. Far from home and the resources he once had, Christian believes the life he knew—and any chance of happiness—is over . . . until his ward’s governess sparks his heart back to life, and makes him remember the man he used to be. Now Christian is determined to return to England, regain his honor, and win the heart of the woman he has come to love.
