Julie Ann Lindsey follows up with a fabulous mystery in the second of this series. Mia Connors is just as engaging in this story as I found her in the debut adventure. This young woman is so engaging with her love of costumes and lack of social graces, I can't get enough of her. She's intelligent and quirky and she is surrounded by a fabulous family. I loved watching her working her sleuthing skills while trying to avoid awkward situations, mainly any social function. Jake Archer is as stoic this time around as he was in the previous story, in fact it's almost as if he's even a little more harder for Mia to figure out. Her wonderful best friend, her chaotic coworkers and her wacky family are all back and things couldn't be more fun. This time around the family business suffers because of the murder and watching Mia put her mind to solving it and handling a Public Relations nightmare was unbelievably entertaining. Getting a little glimpse behind the scenes of a Renaissance Faire wasn't only interesting it was entertaining. I loved how the affects of her previous investigation carry over in to this story, there was no glossing over some of the not so glamorous details. I cannot wait to see what will happen to this fearless and feisty computer geek the next time around.
After being the prime suspect in a murder investigation three months ago Mia Connors is trying to get her life back to normal. Normal for her means helping her family's business by acting as Queen Guinevere at the local Ren-Faire and indulging in her love of costumes during the Pioneer Days at her day job. Just as she thinks life is settling in to a new routine another body falls at her feet and Jake Archer who is now a US marshal re-enters her life. With the family business's reputation on the line Mia is determined to find the killer before she becomes the next victim.
It's been three months since Jake Archer rolled into town, accused Mia Connors of murder and stole her heart. She hasn't heard from him since. So when a man collapses at the fall Renaissance Faire, she's surprised to see the US marshal arrive on scene. And shocked when he points the finger at her—again. Mia would sooner be able to resurrect the poor fellow than poison him.
Jake Archer's career has been rising fast, but it's about to come to a crashing halt. The Ren-Faire victim was in protective custody—Jake's custody—and they were painfully close to nabbing a major crime boss. If Jake doesn't solve the murder soon, he'll be fetching donuts instead of protecting his nation. A difficult enough task without the alluring Mia Connors in the way.
Working with Jake to catch the killer might push Mia into crazy-cat-lady territory. But with a murderer on the loose—and Mia's reputation on the line—they'll have to work fast to find the killer before the killer finds them.
