The Silence

The Silence is one of the best novels I’ve read in a long time. I love horror stories and this one captured my attention from page one. It was quite creative how the author threw out random facts and later tied them all into the storyline. My mind raced trying to connect the newscasts in the beginning. I am also a fan of survivalist or apocalyptic stories and this one fit the bill in an ingenious way. Odd and different are supreme in my opinion and Tim Lebbon has a fantastic imagination. The characters were well developed and their emotions became mine. These people did what they had to do to survive despite their surroundings and other characters they came in contact with. Terror doesn’t begin to describe some of the scenes and horrors they faced. I was literally gripping the book. The transition of a world from before to after became real. One can’t help but compare their fictional world to our own present day issues and worries. Could this happen to us? How would we react? And then, please don’t let this happen in our world. In our technology driven, always busy, never quiet world- how long could you stay silent?

Love, bonding, sacrifice and loss all combined to make this into an exemplary work. I read this book in one day, the day I received it in fact. Only one part bothered me and I have pondered it for so long I’m late turning in this review. I won’t reveal any secrets or destroy the amazing journey this read will take you on, but I will say that a sequel would clear up any misgivings I may have and send me over the moon and waiting in line for the next one.
