Magnificent Meals Made Easy

At first presentation I would label this cookbook as cute but simple. Inviting pictures along with the word lazy, which implies easy in the cooking world, drew me in. The back cover includes rave reviews. More praise follows as you open the book to an advanced praise page. The table of contents is easy to follow; I like that. I'm not sure that a book of this length needs a foreword and an introduction, but it is there nonetheless. The font is kind of small, but I do like how they organized the sections.

Part 1: Chapter one- Party In Your Pantry. I love this heading. Already I'm set up for fun. This is a great section explaining stock items every cook should have on hand. Unexpected guests will be delighted if you have these ingredients ready and available. I found it informative and helpful. Chapter two- Tips For Rookie Cooks And Lazy Gourmets. I found this section to be a bit of a contradiction. Gourmet implies beyond simple recipes, but this entire chapter focuses on the newbie cook. There are some great tips here if you are new to cooking and I highly recommend you read them. I skimmed chapter three because I believe any reader buying a 'gourmet' cookbook would already possess a garlic press and cooking shears and most probably knows how to use them.

Part 2: Finally, onto the recipes. The appetizer section is varied and rich. As I flipped through the other sections, salad, soup, etc. I found unique recipes that had my taste buds tingling. I'm always excited to find a different take on the same old ingredients and this book provides that ten fold. I would have liked to have seen pictures of the finished product. I understand that cost is always an issue when producing books but even black and white pictures would have made a great addition. Even a seasoned cook likes to see the finished product before the process begins.

The back of the cookbook provides a picture of the authors. Hmm, funny how these were deemed important and included for the reader to see but pictures of the food were omitted. I liked reading about the authors and how the book came to be. They had a great idea with this content, but I wish they would have taken it to the next level. I'm off to try that lime ice cream now...can't wait to see what it looks like!
