Maggie Brooks’ Love of Cooking is a compilation of good food recipes a mother daughter team has put together over the years. Anytime family works together it can be stressful so I commend both of these ladies for finding something fun to do as a joint endeavor. This alone will connect with many readers. Yvonne and Brooke have a website (www.loveofcookingonline.com) where they post recipes and respond to readers. This cookbook was actually formed, first, on the website in ‘chunks’. By buying this book you get all of those separate smaller books in one place.
I’ll have to say that at first glance I was not at all impressed by this cookbook. The quality of printing is average, the cover is not very appealing and there isn’t one picture of food inside. That said there are some fantastic recipes in this book. I found an Asian coleslaw recipe that I’ve been searching for and green tomato pie recipe that I’d forgotten how good it is. As I read through the rest of this book I found several great family recipes that many cooks will appreciate having on hand. This is a great basic recipe book for any kitchen. There is a suggestion of more volumes to come in the future. I hope some of the kinks get worked out so these recipes will appeal to a bigger audience. As is this cookbook comes in at 3.5 Stars.
