As always Anne Bishop has written a story that I could not put down. With book four in the “Others” series she has proven she can keep me hooked for the long haul.
Meg and Simon are two characters that are just fun to read. Their chemistry is spot on, their progressive relationship has me eating up every sentence they are in. I cannot get enough of these two.
The secondary characters in this series play a big part. There are too many to name, but they all are important to the overall world. They are just awesome as well as equally entertaining and fun.
As always there is just enough action, paranormal elements, and bad assery. Plus readers also get just a hint of romance that makes The Others so addicting. I recommend this series every damn time.
Here is a bit about the overall series and this story.
Since the Others allied themselves with the Cassandra Sangue, the delicate relationship between humans and Others has changed. Some see a new future with both. But not everyone wants to make peace with The Others and will go to cruel lengths to rid the world of them. But what a radical group does not realize is that there is something more dangerous than even The Others and that they will not stop to protect what is theirs.

For centuries, the Others and humans have lived side by side in uneasy peace. But when humankind oversteps its bounds, the Others will have to decide how much humanity they’re willing to tolerate—both within themselves and within their community...
Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the delicate dynamic between humans and Others changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn, see the new, closer companionship as beneficial—both personally and practically.
But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land that belongs to the Others—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to protect what is theirs...
