Dirty Trouble

The Vinnie Esposito Series, #2

Vinnie Esposito is driving Interstate 95 at 6am when suddenly someone hits the rear of her car causing her to leave the road and head down a knoll toward an embankment. The car comes to a rest hanging precariously on a bridge. Vinnie grabs her cell phone and calls for help, but cannot give them an exact location. Emergency personnel crisscross the area until they locate her. Securing the vehicle and using the Jaws of Life Vinnie is pulled from the wrecked Taurus. Marcus walks toward her and pulls her into his arms as Vinnie weeps in relief. Vinnie is convinced it was just an accident, but Marcus is convinced it is not. As Vinnie is walking an old pick-up pulls up next to her and none other than Tony DeGreico is inside. Tony is a psycho who had been dating a friend of hers a couple of years before. Vinnie is shocked he is out of the psychiatric hospital and more so that he is there in her village. Tony lets Vinnie know that he wants to thank her for his new life.

Trying to keep Vinnie safe is keeping Marcus and Aaron on their toes. If only they can get Vinnie to stop trying to investigate and just stay safe. Vinnie is definitely on a wild ride; she just needs to be careful it doesn't end deadly, with her as the deceased. "Dirty Trouble" takes up a few months after "For Love of Livvy" takes off. Each book can and does stand alone, but I recommend reading all the series in order for a fuller enjoyment of the series. Be sure to be ready to dive into book 3 "Dead Wrong".

I was introduced to the Vinnie Esposito series through Night Owl Reviews and immediately fell in love with Vinnie. She is a very smart woman who must walk a very fine line. Her family is of Italian heritage and temperament. She has no interest in associating with anyone in law enforcement, but Vinnie's boyfriend is with the state troopers and her boarder is none other than an undercover FBI agent. Her family reluctantly accepts Marcus because Vinnie loves him. They believe Aaron works for the EPA and are totally in the dark as to his true occupation. Everyone has secrets that they keep from someone, myself included. But I don't know if I could keep one this proportion without tripping over the lies I would have to tell to keep it. As a story line, it is funny watching Vinnie jump through hoops as her family tries to throw her at the Adonis looking boarder, even as they try not to like Marcus.

Then you have the two men in her life trying not to notice when Vinnie or one of her family skirt the edges of the law, even sometimes jumping right over the edge into the muddy waters of criminal actions. That can't be easily reconciled with their vows to uphold the law. Something Vinnie, seems to forget quite quickly when it suits her. Marcus is like most people in love, reluctant to turn in someone he loves and he and Aaron often cover for Vinnie. As I have read each book I have begun to identify with each character and I'm not sure if it is safe to say I have added Vinnie and the other characters to my circle of fictional friends I want to check up on to see how they are doing. I worry that the crazy mad-cap escapades that Vinnie gets into will harm her and Marcus' relationship. If I had Ms. Griffith's phone number I would be calling her to see what little whispers she has heard from them lately just so I would not have to wait for the next book to come out. After you begin this series you will want her number too.

This is easily a standalone book, but I also feel a series is better if you start at the beginning and read it through. Pick up your copy today. Vinnie is a friendly outgoing woman who will be more than willing to become your friend and offer to meet you at her friend’s deli for lunch and a chat. You will be wanting to visit often.
