Lane Kramer is the owner of an inn in Starry Point, North Carolina. She moved there five years earlier to start anew. One night on a stormy day, an English professor by the name of Michael Forrester appears at her inn wishing to seek refuge. Reluctantly Lane lets him stay. He says he’s only looking for a place to finish writing his book, but Lane doesn’t quite believe him for he is very familiar with the island.
Lane is quite the loner but surprisingly she makes a friend in Mary Quinn. Every day Mary goes to the dunes to look at the sea. When Lane uncovers Mary’s story, a relationship between Lane and Michael blooms. But when secrets Michael keeps hidden comes to life, Lane must choose between protecting herself once again or fighting for the thing she wants most, love.
This is a lovely story. It takes place on a beautiful island in North Carolina. When Lane and Michael first meet, it is quite interesting. Lane is not going to take anymore guests at her inn, but Michael is very stubborn. He wants to stay at Lane’s inn and Lane can’t do anything about it.
I really like the pace of the story. It doesn’t feel rushed nor too slow. The characters seemed real and very likeable, especially Lane. I liked her personality. She reaches out to Mary even though she barely knows her.
Lane goes through a lot. Her marriage fails and she loses a child. I can’t imagine the pain she goes through. She had to go through the loss of a child with no one to support her. Her husband is a jerk. He blames her for everything, which is infuriating. But I am so glad that she manages to move on and get on with her life.
There are twists and turns in this book that will keep you reading page after page. It’s a really good novel. I am very impress with the author. I’m unfamiliar with her writing style, but I liked what I’ve read so far. I definitely would like to check out other works by her.
You should check out this book if you enjoy women’s fiction. It has a satisfying ending and it’s an excellent story. It will be worth your time.
