Estelle decided to set up a book club to help her café bring in more customers. What happened later was nothing she had imagined. People of all ages came to her book club. After the first meeting, which didn’t really go as well as she thought it would, she suggested they try reading an erotic book for their next meeting. To her surprise, everyone agrees. What started out as a way for her to earn some extra money turned into something more than she can imagine and changed her life forever.
Rebecca is in her thirties. She’s having problems with her husband. After settling into the comfort of married life, she’s found that the excitement has disappeared. Nothing exciting is happening in bed and her sex life has become dull.
Gracie is in her late twenties. She’s not dated in a long time because she doesn’t like being dominated by men. She likes to rely on herself. Seeing her mother’s failing marriage with her father, she’s stayed far away from men.
Reggie is also in his late twenties. He is only in the book club for the purpose of his thesis. At first the other members disliked him for that. Later accepted him with open arms.
Sue is retired from her job and looking forward to spending time with her husband. They are both now retired. She’s found that her husband would rather stay at home instead of going out. Sue dreamt of travelling the world, but her husband is having none of it.
Last we have Estelle. She’s divorced with a teenage son. Between managing her shop and caring for her son, she has no time for romance. She hasn’t dated since her divorce.
I loved how the book focused on more than just the main character of Estelle. I loved reading each of the characters unique and different stories. I expected something different when I first got the book, but it turned out to be something more than even I expected, which I really liked. Each of the characters had problems with their lives. All of them used the book club as a way to escape from their problem for a while. As they continued to meet they became good friends. I thought this book will be naughtier, but it totally focused on something else. I loved the friendship aspect of this story. At first they all were pretty distant with each other but they grew close as time went by. I was especially surprised by what happened between Gracie and Reggie. Because of the book club, they each found their true colors. They found their happy endings.
I really liked this book. It was well written and I was able to connect with each of the characters and learned something new. This book was different from other books I’ve been reading recently, which I’m really thankful for. I applaud this author. The story was unique, addictive, and had me turning the pages. Totally will be looking out for more books from Sophie Hart.
