Skylar Davenport is one feisty, courageous and independent kind of woman. She doesn't need a man to take care of her. All her life she has looked out for herself and her sister. She has never needed a man in her life and it comes as a surprise when she cannot stop thinking about Wade. He is everything she doesn't need in a man, sexy, gorgeous and has a delicious smile. He keeps making her heart beat faster. He is trouble and when she finds out that he has a horse that resembles the same one that she found at her neighbors house, where they were murdered, well it's a big surprise. She doesn't want to believe it was him, but Wade is very secretive about his life and why all of a sudden he is living where she is. Not only does she have to find out exactly who killed her neighbor but must find out why she is suddenly feeling very attracted to Wade. Can she pretend that their marriage is really a fake and find out exactly who killed her friends before she gets killed herself?
Wade is a good agent and works hard in his line of work. He has never failed at bringing in a suspect but this case is going to be the hardest one he has ever had to accomplish. Wade cannot believe that this little feisty woman could be a cold-blooded killer. Sure she has tried shooting him twice but that still doesn't make her a killer. Pretending to marry her was supposed to work in his favor. He was supposed to find out her true motives. What he didn't expect was for the attraction between them to spark like a rapid blaze. Each time he is near her he starts making excuses. Something he has never done before. Not only does he have to find out who the killers are but why they would involve Skylar and her sister. Another thing he has to worry about is the pain it might bring to her when Skylar learns about his true identity. Can he continue on with this case? Is Skylar really the killer?
Wow this is the first time I have read a book by Ruth D. Kerce and it will not be the last. I loved this book and Wade can be summed up in one word, yummy. Here is a guy who is tough, macho in some ways and dedicated to his work. He has never failed in bringing in a suspect yet when it comes to Skylar well it is hard for him. He goes by his gut and something about Skylar makes him wonder if maybe they are mistaken about her being a killer. You could tell right from the beginning how perfect they were for each other and the secondary characters were awesome. Check out the other review I have for the sequel. You think this was it oh no wait until the next story, Wanton Surrender. Ms. Kerce did a beautiful job and Wanton Temptation is a definite keeper in my book.
This is the first book in the Wanton series.
Dark, mysterious, sexy-as-sin…and possibly a murderer.
Now, Skylar Davenport must discover if this handsome stranger killed her neighbors. She knows she shouldn't trust him. She shouldn't feel anything for him. He could steal everything precious to her, including her life. But Wade Sinclair makes her feel alive. She craves his smile, his touch, and so much more.
Skylar isn't what Wade expected. Instead of hard and vengeful, as he'd been told, Skylar is soft and so gorgeous he aches to touch her. She has a temper, but is smart and determined. Unfortunately, he has a job to do. And though he wants her in his bed, he certainly isn't about to let his heart rule his head. Fate killed love for him once. He isn't looking for a second chance. He'll bed her if he can, but he'll also do what he was hired to do.
He'll take care of Skylar permanently, and move on with his life, alone…or so he thinks.
Note: This book was previously published elsewhere in 2001 as Wild Temptation. It has been extensively revised for Ellora's Cave Publishing.
