Nightshade

Discarded Heroes Series, Book 1

The War…it can change many men and women before their time. One man, Max Jacobs, not only changed his life but ruined his marriage. He knows he has no one to blame but he saw things that no man should see in his life. Coming back was supposed to be a new start to a new life, not an ending. He only knows the one thing to do and that is to kill the enemy or in this case the bad guys. He didn’t intend to join Nightshade. Yet with Nightshade and the other men in the group he feels like he’s found a family again. They call him discarded, a waste but to Nightshade he is the best gunner and tracker. He can find the evil right away yet he cannot fix his marriage. He knows he doesn’t belong with civilians like he used to but he’s trying very hard to act normal. Can he find the people behind all the murders before it’s too late?

Ronie Kendig has a good solid story in Nightshade. This is the first book in a new suspenseful series and well worth reading. It starts off with hero Max Jacobs as he comes back from war. He tries to hide that he is a coward and not a hero. I loved that his wife still wants him and will do anything she can to prove that the old Max is still there. There is so much in this book and the author did a great job at creating believable characters and setting. I loved it from the beginning as I saw how Max was so distraught and in turmoil. Each day was a struggle for him as he tried to stay sane and be his old self. There is still definitely love in him and loved that Nightshade was always there for him. Like I said Ronie is starting off good with this series and I can’t wait for of these discarded heroes and their stories to be told. Great job.

Book Blurb for Nightshade

Soldiers all across the globe are returning home to their families after brutal tours of duty. They are discharged from the service. . . and on their own. Meet Max Jacobs, one of these discarded heroes, as he faces a wall of failure—in his career, his friendships, and his marriage. Failing again—this time to end his life—he is offered a thread of hope. Are covert government operations the answer for him, or will they only bring more danger and dissension upon his broken family?
