Grace Mills is fat. Well she thinks she's fat but she is just average. The thing is that every day she goes to the gym and every day she fantasizes about one guy. Not just a guy but the guy that every woman wishes she had in their lives. Everybody says she is just perfect the way she is but she knows she is not. Not only is she trying to be the perfect woman but trying to keep the family business open. She doesn't know how it happened but one minute she is running for her life and the next living in a perfect world. She dreamed of this world before being thin, perfect, and popular and with the hottest man ever as her mate. The problem is that what she thought was perfect is not so perfect after all. Can she go back to her world where everything is actually perfect in her own ways?
Every day she comes in to exercise. Every day she looks at the hot guy in the gym, never noticing him. Yet everyday Carlos is falling in love with her. The thing is that she is perfect for him in every way but as a janitor he never gets noticed. He knows the hot guy makes fun of her but to him she is the one for him. His sister tells him he's crazy to dream a woman like Grace will fall for him. Yet each time she comes he feels a connection with her. Outside he seems like any other janitor but inside he is a man trying to make a living for him and his sister. Grace is just the woman his mother told him he would meet someday. Determined to make her see she is perfect he will do anything he can to convince her she is beautiful in his eyes.
This is the first I have read from Liz Fichera and have to say it was quite good. In the beginning I thought okay another fat thin story but it is more than that. You have Grace who sees herself as fat but it takes a man like Carlos to make her see sometimes dreams and fantasies should just stay like that. I loved that we saw both worlds in Graces eyes and her opinions on each one. I definitely didn't like the "hot" guy in the book but Carlos made up for it with his real feelings towards Grace. Liz Fichera definitely showed us two different worlds with two different guys but only one will win her heart. Great job.
A Life Less...Hers
Grace Mills craves being perfect almost as much as she craves raspberry scones. In fact, her life would be perfect if only she could lose ten more pounds, if only the pastry café she co-owns with her sister would turn a profit, if only the hottest guy at the gym would look her way...
And then "if only" comes true. Grace is suddenly straddling two lives: an alternate reality where she's a size two, weathergirl celebrity and being chased by the hot guy. Only Mr. Gorgeous isn't very nice, and she doesn't get to eat...anything, much less bake!
In her other life, she's starting to realize her sister is less than happy running the family café, and hunky Carlos, the gym's janitor, seems to have a secret crush on her. Maybe there's more to him than meets the eye...
Grace is living two lives and it's beginning to cost her. Is there a way to pick one...that's perfect?
