Women have been disappearing in and around the town of Endover, New Hampshire. Although they all eventually turn up unharmed none of them can recollect what happened to them. When two young girls go missing, Maxine Stuart, a private detective, along with her best friend Tempest "Stormy" Jones and retired ex-cop, Lou Malone, travel to Endover and are compelled to expose the cause of the disappearances.
Upon their arrival at Endover, the group instantly realizes that this town is a haven for something dark and sinister. Maxine, who is no stranger to the supernatural, has had first hand experience with things that go bump in the night. Although there is a deep desire in Maxine for Lou, it pales in comparison for her determination to uncover the truth of whom or what is controlling the town and causing innocent women to disappear.
Just when I though I couldn't be any more impressed with a series of Paranormal Romance books, reading Blue Twilight left me hungry for more of Maggie Shayne's books. The story was amazing. I love tough heroines and these two female detectives knew exactly what they wanted and how to position themselves to get it. Blue Twilight is an attention grabber from start to finish. Although there are some random parts that seemed a little slow, they do not dampen the spine chilling suspense you will experience while reading this book.
The idyllic town of Endover, New Hampshire, looks innocent. But below its surface a thirst and a desire both powerful and ancient boil fiercely. When two girls go missing, only one person can delve deep enough to find them - Maxine Stuart, a private investigator who has finally started to believe.
"Mad Maxie" understands why she was asked to help - no living mortal knows as much about the undead as she. But the dark force controlling Endover can see all, and will use Maxine's knowledge against her to strengthen his hold on the town. Not even the influence of Lou Malone, the man Maxie most desires, can convince her to abandon the crusade against a madman's yearning for power...and resurrected love.
