I have always enjoyed Jennifer’s books. They have a way of capturing your mind. However this particular book did not hold up to my expectations. I did enjoy the writing but the story line I thought could have been a little better.
Elise witnessed her husband’s murder and she was taken by that same person. She figured that those people would want to murder her as well because of who she is and what she saw. But she also knew that as long as she was not in her home she was safe from others who might want to murder her as well.
Sam is an undercover agent whose sole purpose is to protect his king and his country, even if it means committing murder. After he completed his latest set of orders he did not think there would be a witness. As far as he knew the house would be empty. But when he saw the Duchess he had no choice but to take her with him and wait for instructions.
During their timer together Elise tries and successfully escapes from Sam. She figures she will either go to her friend or a Duke whom she had hopes would help her. She thought that she would be better off on her own then with him.
Of course the captor and the captive start having feelings for each other that they both deny. Elise denies them because she thinks it is one sided and Sam deny s it because he knows his life is not meant for a family. During their time together, Sam and his brothers and sister are looking for where his mother disappeared to.
This is a romance and by the end of the book, Sam does find his mother, and admits he was in love with Elise.
