The Duke and His Duchess / The Courtship

Windham Series

By far this collection of novellas were not my favorites as far as romantic, love stories are concerned. In fact both of the novellas seriously lacked any sort of real romance or chemistry for that mattered between the characters. So I was disappointed to have discovered the romance overall was absent from the stories.

However I did enjoy the historical plot of both of the novellas. I think should the stories had been listed under overall general fiction rather than romance I would have rated the collection a little higher. One thing I do like about Burrowes' stories is that each story contains a strong foundation on a historical front. The stories are always of interest with deep rooted characters that a reader cannot find elsewhere.

I think it is also important to point out that some knowledge of the Windham series which these new stories are part of is somewhat necessary to understanding where these novellas and newly introduced characters will lead.

As reader who prefers stronger romance I am not as satisfied with this collection as I wanted to be. Instead I have to focus more on the fact that these stories are mainly for historical pleasure rather than for the romance. It is this reason alone that I have decided to remain mutual in my review in the fact that I neither loved nor disliked the stories.
