Overall I was disappointed with "Tempted by the Solider". The writing style flowed easy enough for me and the novel is well-written but the characters Lilly and Nathan were so unrelatable for me that I could not get involved in the actual plot of the story. There was too much tension between the duo and the constant bickering back and forth was sometimes annoying for me as the reader. I would have really liked to have seen this novel a little more tamer than it was.
What I did like was the sexual chemistry between Lilly and Nathan. It was present throughout the novel and the author never let up on it. This allowed for some romance to stay alive as the story progressed. Still, it's hard to enjoy a novel when I did not care for Nathan's character.
He is like riding a cascade of emotional waves. His alpha and jealous behavior was not to my own liking in romantic heroes. Nathan's ego completely overshadowed Lilly who started out strong and then quickly faded, almost like the author was running out of room to contain Nathan's behavioral issues.
Unlike with Nathan I liked Lilly as a character. She is strong-willed. I don't see her with someone like Nathan even if he is good-looking. The two are complete opposites which could have made for a stronger and more romantic plot.
As a photographer Lilly is supposed to take photographs of a friend's wedding. She ends up having to take a road trip with Nathan in order to get there, after anything that could go wrong does go wrong. While road trips are meant to be fun, Lilly knows that being locked in a car with Nathan and making the trip is going to be anything but fun.
Soon the two cannot keep their hands off each other even though Nathan is leaving again in two weeks to go back to his duties as a Marine.
This novel is an alright read. I just wish the author would have toned down Nathan's behavior a little more. I would have savored more of the novel that way but because Nathan is a little more on the childish side I just couldn't get as involved in the novel as I would have liked to.
When one touch isn’t enough, why resist?
Road trips are supposed to be fun. Or, at least, full of hot sex. For photographer Lilly Grayson, the fifteen-hour drive to her friend’s wedding with Nate Jennings will be neither. Not that Nate isn’t sexy—the man is six-foot-three-inches of mouth-watering Marine. But Lilly’s been there, done that…and he walked away. Now it’s time for a little payback. The kind that’ll make a man desperate for a taste of what he can’t have.
And Nate wants a taste—so badly that he can barely keep his hands on the wheel. But the scars and ghosts of his last tour still haunt him. He can’t give into temptation, not this time. Lilly deserves a whole man—one who can love her the way she deserves to be loved, even if she doesn’t believe it can happen. And that can’t be Nate. Not when he’s leaving again in two weeks, and this time, he’s not sure he’ll return…
